Current Funding Priorities
Currently, 100% of new contributions will fund these four priority initiatives to support and advance our mission to protect and promote the health and well-being of youth through sound drug and alcohol policies:
1. Research: MAPA has convened an independent consortium of researchers in and outside the state of Massachusetts to study, inform and influence the state’s research agenda on drug and addiction prevention regulation and controls. This initiative includes a communications strategy for building advocacy and public awareness about addiction, science-informed policy and regulatory measures that protect communities, families and individuals from drug use and addiction.
2. Community-based substance misuse prevention education: a new initiative that connects the private and public health sectors at the local level to engage communities in raising awareness about the brain science, the driving forces of addiction and solutions to the growing epidemic. Through this project, we will feature community initiatives, parenting strategies and successful measures of the Icelandic model for policymakers, public health leaders, and community stakeholders to consider adapting for their locally-based strategies.
3. Capacity building: strengthening the Alliance by continuing to build relationships and partnerships with stakeholders to advance the mission of the organization. This includes communications, outreach, newsletter and web presence to increase the visibility and reach of MAPA’s drug prevention and policy work.
4. Policy, Legislative Advocacy, Government Relations: Outcomes of initiative work will drive MAPA’s influence on local and state-level drug and alcohol policies that work to protect youth in the Commonwealth from drug use and addiction.
Through these combined projects, our network will inform, advocate and educate for best strategies that protect Massachusetts’ children and young people from exposure to and harms of drug and alcohol use.
